To enable us to realize its mission and achieve its goals, SMC has organized its business into two distinct business-lines namely: Real Estate & Infrastructure Investment (REI) and Private Equity (PE).
The REI business, the heart of SMC’s business, primarily focuses on the acquisition of medium and large-sized parcels of land, and developing master-planned integrated developments.
The PE business-line is twofold. On one hand, SMC makes controlling and non-controlling investments in private companies, while managing a portfolio of private investments. On the other hand, and as part of its long term objectives, SMC plans to take strategically significant equity positions in listed companies across Africa, in addition to potentially managing a portfolio of publicly-traded equity and debt securities. This business-line will also perform a treasury function and will support SMC’s liquidity due to the relative ease of buying and selling these securities.

SMC has put together a strong management team with the diverse skills and experience required for our various areas of specialization. There is an ongoing comprehensive process of reviewing and updating our business model to adapt to the intricacies of the modern day global climate.
We recently conducted an extensive appraisal of our entire investment portfolio, while developing different strategies with tangible value propositions. It is part of our long term strategy to indulge in a number of consolidations and acquisitions.
Diversification
We plan to invest more than US $60 million in African countries over the next 36 months, and we are actively prospecting for other opportunities across the entire continent.
